I'm not a truck driver yet (supossed to head to the CR utah school at the end of the week). Here is my top ten.
1 I have no job and construction jobs are far and few between.
2 I have no bills. So if everything tanks and I have the worst time of my life I'll just leave. I got nothing to loose.
3 I love traveling and seeing new places.
4 I love to drive.
5 This will get me the experiance I need to get a local driving job, ie: local distributer, county, road construction ect.
6 It could be an adventure and after the training I can bring my daughter otr with me.
7 The money "Can" be good.
8 I'm not trapped in a cubicle or stuck in doors with a crappy boss.
9 I can live almost anywhere in the country and have a job.
10 It's a marketable skill that will always be in high demand if I do a good job.
10 top reasons for wanting to be a truck driverr

Hey wolfman82, keep Central Ref in mind while out in Utah. They are right next door to england. Central is a private company and a little more family oriented than england. You aren't committed yet, maybe check them out. A lot of guys are happy with them on this forum. I am not a recruiter, my wife and I drove them for six years and had a pretty good experience. Good luck!

I'll give this a shot,
1. I love exploring...seeing what's around the next bend, wether in a truck, or on foot backpacking.
2. I like cars, trucks, motorcycles, and other heavy machinery.
3. I like listening to music.
4. Sometimes driving reminds me of when we took family vacations when I was a kid.
5. While I like physical activities, it's much nicer when it's on my terms and not because I have to like I would in other jobs.
6. I'm not very educated, so the pay is pretty decent.
Ok, that's all I can really think of. Tops ten things I hate,
1. DOT rules and officers that are just nit-picking.
2. Dispatchers or Safety officers that tell you that you will be fired if you run illegal, but then expect you to run illegal.
3. The general disrespect from the public.
4. Rude shippers and consignee's.
5. Getting laid over for the weekend, anywhere east of the Rockies. Laid over the weekend in the Rockies or anywhere west of that, doesn't bother me, since I can always find a park close enough to go take a day hike.
6 Messing with tarps. I don't mind straping down loads, unloading, loading, etc, etc, but I hate tarps.
7. While I like winter at first, after the second week of January, I'm ready for summer again.
That's it. -

I like to drive and shift, with a truck that looks sharp and is well dressed...and has loud pipes and an even louder jake brake.
I like to down shift, upshift, float the gears, clutch the gears, and sometimes even double clutch.
I like to eat pie and ice cream at the best rest stop in the tri-state area (I -35, first rest stop coming into Iowa from Minnesota), cause they have the best apple pie in the tri-state area, or maybe even the lower 48 states.
Since I only work part-time, I have a few days to forget about the bad things (the awful smell in the Pilot truck stop in Sioux Falls, what is it?),
how tired I get after driving my route, cause I can't sleep in the truck like I can in my own bed. How sore and tired I get from being bounced around for 900 miles. -

I've been there. Got the T-shirt and the mug!!! -
I remember a time when I worked a normal job you know... same place, office, same monday talk...hows ur weekend joe..... u know gab gab gab ect, then I drove a truck and got to peek in to those other people's life's, and as nice as it looks it always nice to hit the road and see some other people's boring life's, some where else ,and enjoy the grind of the road..... sounds like the makings of a country song.......
Pumpkin Oval Head Thanks this.
