hey yall, been looking into getting back into trucks for a while now. Ive been running heavy equipment since I was 12 or so, when I was 16 I ran semi bottoms onsite working for my dad in the summers and then moved up to running a dozer which is where ive been for the last 16 years driving off n on. My question is ive been pondering the idea in getting a truck and starting out on my own. Over the years ive made contacts with some of the bigger brokers down here that run 10 wheelers, bellys and end dumps so im trying to get a lock on better long term options.

So far I have been leaning towards a 10 wheel dump w 5th wheel under the box, this way if dump work slowed I could drop the box n pull what ever was needed.

other option I was thinking was to get a bobtail n pull bellys and if that slowed then I could run hay out here or other smaller jobs.

Now I have capital to keep the wheels rolling for around 3 months depending on the truck cost.

What do yall think would be the best long term truck as I get such mixed opinions out here from guys pulling bellys claiming they bring in 20-30k gross a month to others telling me they barley pull in enough to keep rolling.

    Thanks

You live in Ramona so talk to John DeFederico at John's trucking there in Santee. He can give you tons of info. You may already know him since you do dirt work. Also Burns and sons in Spring Valley. The thing with sand/gravel/dirt is it's ups and downs. Plus you need to be willing to go where the jobs are. Like Orange county or Riverside county. And 20k a month GROSS isn't NET, right ? Big difference.

I like bottom dumps because you can haul sand/gravel/asphalt/dirt.
