Taken literally, it sounds like they don't care what you've done in the last 10 years that wasn't a CDL job. So if you have no CDL experience then you don't need to give them a work history!Obviously that can't be accurate but that's how I interpret their text the way it's written.

My concer was, the company wanted 3 years, and when the orientation packet came it said to bring 10 years worth of history for the DOT. I Just obtained my Class A 3-13-13 & previous to that I have NEVER held a CDL or job at all that required driving CDL trucls or vehicles period.Seceral places have since closed or have no record anymore of me (I called a few) I though oh great I'm screwed at orientation because of that If they only want 10 years of CDL history I'm good....

On the FedEx web site it says "Applicant must submit the correct dates, full names, addresses, phone numbers, type of work preformed and reason for leaving for the to last ten (10) years of employment." On your "Profile" that you have to make with them in order to apply for any open position, if you leave a space in your work history more than 30 days or you simply don't list a full ten (10) year it will allow you to apply for jobs that don't require driving. If you apply for any job the requires driving and this includes sales, supervisor positions, couriers, and all the driving positions, it automatically kicks you back to your "Profile" and instructs you to fill in the all the 30 day spaces in employment and to list all the way back to a certain date. i.e.; if today is 05-16-2013 it will say back to 05-16-2003 (which is ten years). It the computer doesn't make any distinction to the type of employment, like CDL driver, bus boy, or even unemployed, so long as the space in time is accounted for.
driver who come to every company I have ever worked for and my to my brothers company who have never worked before anywhere in there life, simply put under history, "Unemployed/No Work Experience" and they list start and ending dates to cover the ten years. If any company has any problem with that the recruiter will tell you right over the phone. Not having a work history doesn't disqualify you by any state or federal standard but some companies might not want to take a chance on your that first year or two, after that you in like flint. Having your Haz-Mat endorsement might help cause at least the company knows you passed a full TSA back round check. -
Listen young man, you wanna be in trucking correct? You wanna get that job right? Well its homework time. You don't need to remember the names of all your bosses just the companies you worked for. If you can't remember a supervisors name just right down Human Resoures or Employment Verifications. These companies do employment checks all day every day, They will get in touch with whom they need speak to. Whats important for you is to go into orientation with a 10 yr history! if you have gaps in your employment history then cover that with Unemployed. As part of your homework you should even call the past companies yourself and get your exact employment dates from each. Again if you want the job then you gotta do your homework, If you go into orientation without the needed info you stand a good chance on getting a bus back home.... Son I have been at this for a long time, my info is good! btw once you get your date together, keep them safe so you will have it the next time you need it and in this business you will need it again one day! also after you get going in this business get a free copy of your DAC once a year so you know whats on it before a hopeful employer looks at it.

You might as well get it done now so it will make it easier on yourself down the road. Take the time to research your past and write it all down complete with names, addresses, phone numbers, when you were employed, how long, etc...
Once you have all the correct info then go ahead and prepare yourself a professional resume. Its really not that hard. You can find many sample resumes online and most likely there are some in windows office or whatever you have on your computer.
This will make life so much easier on you! When you do go to orientation you will have everything right there in front of you. Not only that but it makes you look professional when you do show up for a job! If you decide to go somewhere else or keep looking for other opportunities than you now have a professional resume that you can shoot out to any prospects via email, fax etc...
Like the other posters said, this is mandatory and is federal law.
Good luck... -
OK folks, OFFICIALLY, you need 10 years work history. Actually, you could say 10 years history, since you need to account for the previous 10 years, weather or not you were working. If you weren't working for a certain period, you put down "unemployed" or "student". Now, here's the part a lot don't understand. While you need to account for the previous 10 years, the truck company only needs to verify the previous 3 years. However, again some truck companies go beyond that and verify the previous 5, even though they don't have to. One of the majors I once worked for had a problem verifying one of my prior jobs, and the recruiter said after 3 attempts, they would just note unable to verify and said I was good to go !
T-Train-Swain Thanks this. -
I'm Good To Go Then.. Was Only Worried About Verification Being Mid Management A Several Jobs In The Past Roll Over Even At Management Level Would Make Itdifficult To Verify Anyways. . Thanks For The Insight.. Orientation At USA Truck Vandalia Ohio Wednesday!
