Yeah they wouldn't give me a pre-hire either, said too many jobs within a 3 year period of time. So I just moved on and got 6 other prehires most without too much trouble. Just wasn't sure how much hassle I was going to have. Good to hear about Schneider thou, thats one that im considering.

Spot on. Same situation not long ago. Thank goodness for w2's and weekly pay stubs and other record keeping.
-
I wouldn't go through that much hassle just to pull wiggle wagons.

my understanding from this forum. and past applications. is they are only required to verify 3 years driving.
since you haven't started driving yet. you've really got nothing to verify.
when i started driving. i was working for a fortune 500. 2 years. i was an auto mechanic for 12 years before that. my last auto job was 5 years. when the owner passed away. shop went by by. all other shops before that time. were no longer around.
so i only had 2 years of fortune 500 to call. and i can't imagine anyone would spend a day calling corporate to try to get a hold of human resources to veryify my dates. and it done no good to call my boss. they came and went faster then flies.Nightwind8830 Thanks this. -
Roehl sent me a pre-hire, I was thinking about driving for them but then I discovered the LTL forum, all shiny and promising ,and have been beguiled by the idea of trying to get a line haul driver job ever since...idk if that will happen but it sounds like my ideal job,and I wouldn't mind driving at night at all.
references aint no thang, I have a few of my previous supervisors who I can use as references. i was worried about the places that closed and the ones where i couldnt get accurate hire and termination dates to save my life, which were most of the jobs I had previously.again ,they were places like TGI fridays, petco, and petsmart for example.
Another related question, I've had 3 accidents in the past 10 years. the most recent is from 2010 and was NOT my fault, the first being someone backing into my car while I was parked
,the second being from 2008,actually, someone rear ended my car when I stopped short due to the car in front of me deciding to slam on his brakes and make an illegal u turn over the road median. I didnt get ticketed for either accident and couldn't prevent either one from occurring. My 3rd accident was my fault, back in 2007,I was 19,cleared the snow off most of my back window but not enough i backed out of my driveway then promptly backed into the neighbors mini van.beautiful.needless to say,it was preventable...

Not much hassle for a potential retirement job.

I couldn't remember accurate hire and ending dates to save my soul, when I was applying to my company.
I gave my best estimate, and unfortunately also did have quite a bit of "undocumented" time periods where I was unemployed, but working for myself (no formal business) and getting paid with cash or personal checks.
Turns out my employer used Hireright for a complete employment & background check.
After I received a copy of the Hireright data, that's how I found my correct hire and ending dates for former employers. lol
Now I have an accurate accounting to go by, for any future employers.
As chinatown said, I would put a lot of these "short term" jobs in the category of "student/working part-time".
Most companies understand when you are younger, and don't have a "solid" 10-year work history.Nightwind8830 Thanks this. -
Not trying to bash ABF or pulling doubles, but just doesn't seem like pulling doubles as your first CDL job would be that great of an experience. I would think that pulling a single trailer would be enough to worry about nevermind the extra sway and issues with more than one. But hey its a driving job and surely pays better than the golden arches or a sign spinner.

I would imagine the company wont hire someone they feel is a liability, but you do make a valid point because I have limited experience with with pulling even a single trailer, and I drive like, well,a student driver. Time and practice are whats needed to fix that, and im sure thats where the whole "1 yr of previous driving experience" comes in, . From what I've read on this forum, companies will test your driving skills before hiring you, correct,so im hoping there is a chance they will consider me. In this thread, though,my primary concern was job history
