I took it off but feel its important to mention that I put the mount on upside down to further lower the mount on the bird perch which for whatever reason seemed to significantly change my swr readings.

Okay. I decided to try it out again. Different placement. Thinkin cophase in the near future. Maybe. Lol.

So how well has the 102 performed for you so far in it's location? Can you at least make it out 12 miles w/o the need for an amp or a hopped up radio?
-
Twelve is a bit of a stretch around here. But I just did that setup last night. Haven't tested more than just a tune and clearing up the audio on the magnum that's running it.
-
Is that mounted to rubber? I'd get a good strap running from the mount to ground.
If you have to go more than a couple of inches, you need to use something more than a couple inches wide. I've used 8" roll flashing (about $5 for a 10 foot roll), with the edges folded over for safety, making a strap about 4" wide. Run that to something substantial, like the frame itself if you can. Maybe down to where the step attaches.
You'll find that the antenna works a whole lot better... -
Yeah. It worked great. I had a substantial ground to frame on it though. Just can't see in the pics. It's back under the bunk now though and I'm back to running the tram on a bird mount. Trying out a new radio though. Found a magnum s3 for cheap and it talks great albeit hears a little too well. Maybe the rf gain knob is screwy but basically it has to be turned almost all the way down to trim out the fuzz.

Bought a new shaft for my predator. Really gets the coil up and away from the cab.
