You hit the nail on the head.
    I worked a 1099 job about 15 years ago.
Spent every penny of my Paycheck's.
I was laughing all they way to the bank sticking it
    To the IRS.

About 3 years later when I had a real job, I got a
    Love letter from the IRS.
Said I owed them almost 10 grand for not paying
    My taxes.
And they had all the records to prove it.
They were nice enough to put me on a payment plan.

I think it’s hard to garnish your wages off a 1099... so people already in trouble with their State tax man or IRS and child support payments go this route to put off the inevitable

Yeah. I was lucky I only got burned because I owed them $300-500 in taxes. By the time I got a letter from the IRS, I only owed them $3,000 all included. It was about 1 month before the 3 year anniversary. The accountant at the company I worked for deducted the taxes from my pay, as a generous offer, and never sent the money to the Feds.

Here's a trick if you owe the IRS money. Go to their website and search for the document that proposes a payment plan. Fill it out with the details and IMMEDIATELY start making payments YOU picked for your repayment plan. It often takes the IRS about 1 year to decide if they like your plan or not. By the time the IRS responds you should have repaid a significant part of the debt and they may accept your plan or increase it a reasonable amount. If you let the IRS decide on your repayment plan it can be like allowing your ex-wife choose your child-support payments. Nothing is enough.

The IRS will get their money. Steal from the mafia, if you have to, but pay the IRS.

Same with some new owner ops. Making decent money..new pickup, and toys. 3 or 4 years their Uncle Sam sends them a love letter, then a new friend comes to their house for a nice visit.

    play it SAFE.

apply for jobs at regular paying, benefit paying workmans' comp covered companies.

you said it your self in your other thread about you quitting your last job, on how, "It’s terrible. I’ve had a business. I’ve also worked in other professions. I’ve NEVER had an employer make life difficult for me"
(posting # 25 here: Unauthorized use of equipment?)

if you (or anyone) wishes to be short changed on pay, have no workman's comp coverage, and have to set aside your earnings to pay your taxes, then have at it.

a job with a bonafide company may be a PITA as well at times, but in the event of getting hurt, needing an operation, meds, etc, how do you pay for that, with out benefits?

some say, "my spouse has coverage i am under", or "i'm young, healthy, i don't need no dam coverage's"

you know, in ANY industry, workers get hurt.

trucking is one of them, and sometimes, one becomes disabled as well...then what..???

how do you sue the employer for workmans comp?

you can't. you're on your own, and that'll clean out ANY monies you HAD saved up, maybe even up to and including selling your house, cars, trucks, boats, etc, etc.

Its risky being 1099. Laws are likely to be beibg broken at the workers expense

Eh I’m home and starting my new job next month :). (Not a 1099 lol working for a farmer, no insurance but everything else is gtg)

I only asked about the 1099 stuff because I see guys talking about how awful it is. I just wanted to be sure it wasn’t exaggerated.

Mojitos and a nice home grilled steak. I’m happy as a lark

Three things that make it legal.

Contract detailing responbilities and the other stuff

independence to make decisions about what and how to haul

Freedom to schedule their own time

This has been in front of the IRS and Michigan labor department.

I won't get into any other details.
