Yep and she was the former democrat governor of Michigan. "Big green" is the new "big oil". But it's cool because its for the environment so never mind where most of electricity will always come from or the vast plains and coastal areas where they plant all the big ugly windmills, usually out of sight of the rich people and far away from their own property. Same scheme but different industries with political favor getting rich now. Left on it's own the oil would dry up and the market would shift that way but these people don't believe in markets and prefer to force things burdening everyone with unnecessary extra costs.

First, Power needs to become so pleantiful and cheap that its a no brainer. I.E nuke plants, fusion plants or some other way to produce it such as orbital solar arrays.
1. Battery tech advances to a point where these vehicles have enough range or can charge quickly enough or be hotswapped quickly and easily enough to compete with just gasing up.
3. Infrastructure is built up to a point it can handle the sudden additional load placed upon it by everyone suddenly trying to plug in.
4. We get rid of many of these frankly toxic as hell lithium based rare earth batterys and/or develop an actual plan to deal with them as they are ALREADY starting to become an enviromental disaster.
5. The cars become so much cheaper and/or more reliable that they can undercut current fueled vehicles enough that anyone not just the rich can afford them.
6. We find a way to produce solid state room temp super conductors and cut down on the staggering amount of power lost from generation to vehicle rolling down the road.
If we get the first or argueably the 6th point then any 2 others. EVs would near entirely replace fuled vehicles within a decade and likely much sooner. Until that point the only way for them to compete with current vheicles is for the government to more or less mandate them.
Dont get me wrong as ive said before EV tech is awsome and i want to see it work as it has MASSIVE advantages over current vehicles. But the tech just is not there to make it workable.Hammer166, skallagrime and Siinman Thank this. -
Dont get me wrong im the same as you on doing everything correct right till disperation hits. you have read my thread, i tried literally EVERYTHING to unbork my own rig before i went with the extreme solution as a last resort. However, thats the issue as well. Many who go in who read every peice of info they can find. Are super choosey and careful still get screwed.
The next issue is people trying to get into the industry or picking up a few used rigs to expand. Used to be that wasnt an issue you need a truck but cant wait for or dont want to buy new, go find a well maintained one with paperwork and you were golden. Fast forward to today. You can find that aformentioned unicorn rig. It can have full history, clean inspections and ecm dumps, spec and on paper look absolitely golden. And the emissions still blow up in your face 50 miles later.
This drives costs in the industry through the roof. Part of me wonders how much of the current economic issues are a direct result of the extreme costs incured by basically any industry using diesel as a whole by emissions. By eliminateing deletes as an option to mitigate it. you are only making that issue worse because these companys are forced to buy new, or are putting old coal burners back into service. They are also keeping worn battered rigs well past their useful life span in service because for whatever reason they havent broken down or because newer more efficent rigs are stupidly expensive due to all the hamfisted crap forced into them and the addtional maintance costs.
Sadly as much ad most with sense disagree with the laws they are being pushed harder and harder and unless and until people put their foot down or emissions become actully reliable this will be an ongoing thing. And whats sad is if they poured all these resources they are using to find these guys into elimnateing actual issues like say lead in aviation fuel. They would have a vastly larger impact on the enviroment then going after the few thousand deleted rigs on the road.RocketScott, gokiddogo and Siinman Thank this. -

Man local to me had me set my 5th wheel wrecker on my “coal burner” and drag his spare truck from Ona, WV to Baytown, TX.
Once there I dropped the Freightliner spare and hooked up to a 2020 389 with 120,000 miles & all the bells and whistles, just no ability to run at speed since it had a emission issue.
It would take nearly 2 weeks before he could get it in a shop down there. I drug it from TX to Martin Peterbilt in Hurricane, WV to be repaired 3 days later…..cke, Arctic_fox, Siinman and 4 others Thank this.
