really your best bet would be LTL companies. there used to be a lot of them in your area, and many are union, which generally means good benefits, pay, etc.
Caton Ave. (off that Ave) had a few down there, as well as Coke i believe

Not better, just different. Running local you dont have to know how to trip plan, you know the area, especially seeing the same customers on a regular basis. You also already know the roads you can and can't go on, so less likelihood of you striking a low clearance because you missed a sign. OTR companies hire mostly based off of insurance rates and risks, so it wouldn't surprise me if the insurance companies crunched the numbers and said local guys are a bigger risk. That means less profit, so they offer you less to make up the difference.

Not arguing with you personally, Dave_in_AZ, as I've seen it stated by many here, but this appears to be another one of those trucking forum myths, like the "you need OTR experience to get a local driving job" myth... A couple years ago, with about three years experience (all local) I contacted Schneider about an OTR tanker gig that I was curious about. The ad said it required experience, I don't remember how much. I told the recruiter what I was currently doing and asked if it met their requirements... the answer was a resounding "of course." ...
So, I just now did a random sampling of 4 companies with OTR jobs that require experience: Walmart, Nussbaum, Penske Logistics and Crete.... they all require "CDL-A" or "Tractor/Trailer" experience. None mention OTR experience.rachi Thanks this. -
Well obviously you had 0 pee jug experience and had no idea how to shut down a fuel island lane for 30 minutes.rachi and austinmike Thank this.

I can't think of the name of the company, help me out @Chinatown It's a tanker company the hauls syrup and stuff to make chocolate. No hazmat required and home on weekends if I remember. Just south of Harrisburg.
Chinatown Thanks this. -
I also see alot of Cowan and A S Kinard trucks running there as well.

I friggin hate you guys that take your break in the fuel isle. It's like you can't park or something. No respect for your fellow drivers. I got no problem banging on your door and giving you a verbal education about my feelings as well. NOT Cool!TokyoJoe Thanks this.

@Wicked Wizard
Sorry, can't find anything about that tanker company in my notes.
Only one I can think of that might do something like that is Carry Transit.
~
Yeah, those lazy people parking at fuel islands are mommies little spoiled brats.
A year or so ago a FedEx driver did that and the driver behind him asked him to pull up. The FedEx driver ran his mouth. The driver that asked him to pull up, walked away, then returned and snatched him out of the truck and stabbed him 3 times. Ambulance took him to the hospital and he lived. Doubtful, he'll ever park illegally or run his mouth to someone he doesn't know again. To my knowledge, the driver that stabbed him wasn't caught and got the last laugh.Last edited: May 30, 2020

Cowan and kinard are always hiring. They both don't pay, which is probably why they are always hiring.
Kinard pays $20 hour all straight time
Cowan starts at 18-19.
I appriciate your input and ideas, greatly appriciated.
