I am considering pulling the 12.7 Detroit out of my W9. I don't know the actual miles on it. The ecm and odometer showed 748,000 miles when I bought it 2 1/2 years ago. It had been sitting for 8 plus years. I want to sell it the engine before I pull it. That way somebody can hear it run or drive it. I was thinking it was getting tired and needed rebuilding. I installed an Air Dog before I put the truck on the road. As it turns out, the Air Dog seems to have been bad when I installed it. A week ago the Air Dog started to knock and blow fuses so I removed it. Now the engine pulls better than it EVER did. Oil consumption had always been questionable in my mind. I need to run it more to see how much oil it uses now that it runs well. What would be a fair value for this engine?
12.7 core value

Some of the glider kit builders were paying up to 5,000$ for pre/egr eng. that had std. crank bearings.
bigguns Thanks this. -
I have been looking at some of the ads selling cores. Detroit cores appear to be worth pretty good money along with used running Detroits being pricey in my opinion.
-
I've heard all the glider builders are running out of good running cores.
When I ordered my 2016 glider with a 14L pre egr detroit I was charged $5000 for a core.
I've since heard that price has gone up now.bigguns Thanks this. -
A glider builder probably wouldn't give me squat as a core but then will turn around and charge the buyer big bucks. I should post it over in the classifieds and see what happens.

I don't know about that.
There getting kinda scarace.
I think you'd be surprised
I've heard the 14L now are fetching $7500 CORE alone -
When i bought my 12.7 it was pulled out of a kw with 100k on rebuild and i paid $6,000 for it through my mechanics buddy that owned a salvage yard. This was last year around July. When i bought it at the time they were going for that and more with 700k-800k miles on them. So i think i got a fair deal. No reason you shouldn't be able to sell it for 5-6k.

Why are you pulling it out of the W900? Is it an Aerocab, or does it have flat windows? Is it for sale?
-
Is what for sale? I assume the truck? 93 W9L flat glass 60" flat top. Everything is for sale for a price. I have a lotta lotta lotta money in this truck but I would drive it to Alaska. On second thought maybe not. I hate the cold. If I put a price on it you would maybe faint. However I have seen a W9 with a 60" Aero one sleeper I would love to buy. PM for tits and giggles if you want. Oh yeah. I want to go back yellow. I have had red, yellow and green. I liked the red but too problematic. I like the green fuel mileage and cheap to fix. But I also like being stupid and want to go back to yellow.
