As stated by swan, the E indicates that it's a factory reman and unfortunately it's too new for the program I have. I can make an educated guess based on the model number though

Thanks, I didnt know that, makes sense...wouldn't have a brand new Pre-EGR motor sitting around still 10 yrs later, or, you wouldn't expect to.

So, because it reman, there's no way to tell what injectors it has without opening it up?

Any Detroit dealer can run your serial number, my program is just too old. But like I said, if you give me your model number I can make an educated guess. Eg. A BK will most likely have 7650 injectors, 309 cam, 16.5:1 pistons and will have piston cooling nozzles

    If it's a 500 it's probably got 5915 injectors and a 1681 cam. If it's a 430/470 it probably has 5575 injectors and a 3564 cam

You cam have the cold settings changed in the e.c.m. so you don't have the smoke when cold.

I didn't even know that was a option. I'll look into it thanks.

Thank you so much for the great info!

I have a print out from the Dr in Effingham. IL...

It says it was a 430...I'm pretty sure they said it was 430 straight across, no difference on cruise versus foot. Is that same injectors and cam? Is there a limit what you can or suggestions on what I should put in if and when it's time to change?

The Dr set it up so it was bumped to 550 hp and 1,850 torque.

I don't mind doing things if there is financial benefit...or if it was seriously lacking something...which is what lead me to the Dr's office after I bought it in the first place.

Right now, it seems to be running real good.

OK, now I have gone off frantically in search of a piece of wood. LOL!

When you say "changed" what does that mean? Set it up so it uses less fuel at lower temp? I was told by a Detroit mechanic last year it might be a cold temp sensor too...or maybe he said air sensor...I don't recall. I didn't mess with it, not yet at least. That is further down on my laundry list of things to do!!!

You could upgrade to the 5915s, that would take you to about 580 with your current ecm setting. A set of 7014s would probably put you 625+. Being a GK, it was never drilled for oil cooling nozzles so going much over 600 is risky unless you really pay attention to your gauges. I always recommend getting it breathing right before getting a lot of fuel in the. High flow manifold, muffler, air filters and an upgraded turbo. Usually by then with a tune you won't be worrying about bigger injectors.

Since you brought up it being a straight 430, I just want to add that it really doesn't make a lot of difference if it's set to 430 or 470 or even 430/470. They achieve the 470 by giving it just a little extra fuel, usually between 1800 and 2100rpm. Because both setting are 1550tq, they have the same torque curve up to that point so they pull the exact same. You have to really rev it to get any noticeable difference and most people don't.
