12v cooler question

Global Trucker states that they found they can run the 12v cooler for 3 hours without draining the battery.

If you are not idling, what happens to the food in the cooler if you can't leave it on overnight. Will it still stay cool and not go bad?

I want to cook everything at home and just take a month's supply of food out but I don't understand how that is possible if the thing is shut down for 8 hours while you sleep or whatever.

I run mine when driving and shut it off while on my 10 hr break and everything stays cold.
