If you're going to go through the trouble to hook it to the battery, you may as well get a 2000w inverter

I've always used those 400 watt inverters without any issues.

But I've never used 400 watts.

And unless they are connected directly to the batteries, you can't.

We've already got company inverters inside our trucks. I just haven't owned a microwave since I moved out of mom/dads house in 2012. Everything's been stove top or oven cooking for me. Of course now would be trying to procure one without resorting wack-Azon or getting scared away from a Wal-Mart or other store by the sight of a crowd. I nearly crashed my pickup into a light pole pulling an evasive U trying to get away from a packed Albertsons.

Easy solution then if you already have the inverter but don’t want a microwave. Get you an electric skillet and one of the countertop toaster ovens. Mines big enough to broil steaks in or cook a frozen pizza. I use it way more than my microwave or electric skillet even. Order em online and have them delivered. Add a cooler and or a mini fridge and you can cook anything you want in the truck.

I’m currently using a Coleman propane two-burner stove that I bought from Walmart. I think I paid about $45, and this thing is built to last. You can also get a one-burner that runs on butane, but propane is cheaper, can work in cold temperatures (unlike butane), and is available everywhere even at the truck stops (but in bigger tanks).

I’ve been boiling 14 oz of water for coffee, and it takes 3 minutes and 15 seconds to boil on a small cooking pot. I eventually bought a whistling kettle (got tired of using a timer) and it takes less than 3 min to boil. The water is super hot, though. I should add that I am not using the stove on the highest setting. I don’t know why. Hahaha. Maybe because I thought I would damage the pan or kettle.

Electric kettles work well if you have an 1800-watt or higher inverter, but you will need to run your APU or truck engine as it consumes energy very quickly. Not running the engine before running the electric kettle can damage or shorten the life of your batteries.

Last note: Open your windows fully if using any gas stove inside your truck, and never take your eyes off it.
