I have a 13 speed Eaton in a 99 W900L with a Cat motor, when going from low to high gears I got the grind sound. Checked the trans plug and don't have alot of shaving. Someone told there was a filter on the rear that may have gotten plugged? I have a feeling the rear of the trans needs fixed. Anybody know more?

Well check the filter first, but I'm willing to bet that the syncro in the back end is bad. You can pull the back end off that trans to replace the syncro without taking the trans out of the truck, but it can be a little bit tough to get the two countershafts back in their bearings when you put it back in. The best way I have found is to knock the 2 dowl pins out and then put a couple of loose fitting bolts in the holes to use as guides. Then you can shake the heck out of it to get it lined up. Just do not try to draw it in with the bolts. You can probably wrap the whole job up for under $1,000
