Does dot require logging 15 mins for each drop, and 15 mins for each hook?

When I did drop and hooks for Werner's General Mills account, I logged 30 min since by the time I checked in with the guard, dropped the trailer and slid the axles back, picked up the new trailer and set the axles to a useable setting and checked out with the guard, a half hour was easily used up.

Youll learn, :) Not sure if the dot specifies any certain amount be logged. I think the rule is, log it as it is.

DOT has no specific time per drop and or hook,

just log the time it takes you.

Can you do it in 7 minutes or less,

    if so,

    just flag it.

It is usually the companies that have the mandatory times for logging.

I am struggling to verify the logging requirements in the fmcsa law book. So I couldn't tell if the 15 minute rule was a company or federal rule. I flagged it without a whole 15 min line change on paper but never get pulled into scales enough to remember to ask, and now being on electronic logs, they don't have it as an option like pre/post trip inspections and fueling. It has to be manually punched in if I want to log it.

Needless to say I have a vested Interest in being as safe and legal as possible without logging anymore than I am required.

Just log it as you do it... If it seven mins or if its 30 mins or so on. Theres no rule by dot as far as i know. That is most likely a company rule . Oh and i wouldn't pull in to a scale and ask anyone anything, just a way for them to start looking you will have enough chances for them to do that .LOL And you have to log it because you need to do a change of trailor or they could fine you for not have the correct trailor listed on your log. Good luck with every thing. PS it says your a student so you should have a trainer and he should know the companies policy on this. there again Good luck and enjoy the ride you will learn as it comes to ya.

Can you pre-trip that trailer in that "flagged" window? Every unit needs a pre-trip.

You drop and hook 3 times a day. You'll need to show 3 pre-trips. The first being tractor and trailer. The remaining 2 will be additional trailers (only) picked up.

You're going to need to show more than a flag.

Best bet, log it as it happens.

I think that as long as you show it on the post trip form and an alotted time thats what matters. I might be wrong but i think by dot rules you only have to show a post trip not a pre trip.

I was chatting with a Crete driver just this week, and he indicated to me that they recently changed their company requirement for a d/h to 30 mins, up from 15, so it will vary from place to place.

I'm on e-logs, and I'll generally log it as I do it. There are indeed places that I can do it in 15 mins....others take twice that.
