You are correct that a 15 spd. overdrive, the top two stick positions are reversed,10th is towards the dash.On a 15 speed of any type you don't "split gears",you have 5 deep reduction gears that have there own range. But on a 13 over your range shift pattern is is basically the same as a 9 or 10 speed, your highest gear position would be away from the dash.Your OD is split over your high range gears, with the air splitter.Same pattern on a 13 speed direct. But there you split under your high gears.

dieselfuelonly and BeN DaViS Thank this.

Yes a 15 over is top gear against the dash and the 15 speed has five low gears that you would not use on the highway but in say like landfills or oil fields hope this helps.

I use deep reduction 3,4,5 shift out and go back to 4th works nice for getting going on a mountain pass as they are close in range than 2nd and 3rd in normal low range.

If it has an X in the model number the top plate corrects so high gear is to the right and back. I did not know there was a series of bad N14's but the older ones were black and mechanical fuel injection. Different series of 15 speeds had different shift patterns to continually shift in progression, which were not listed on the shift pattern, and only added up to 11-13 speeds in progression as I recall. I did drive a oil drilling rig that had a true 15 speed, shift 5 split, shift 5 split and shift 5. I like all of them, its like having extra golf clubs in your bag, they are not normally used but can help you through a tight spot.

I've driven two 15's. The overdrive was single over (compared to a 13 or 18 which have two overdrive ratios). Top gear in the 15 OD is .79:1 and the 13 and 18 are. 73:1.
On both 15's I drove (one was OD and the other direct), 2-3-4-5 on the deep reduction side overlap 2-3-4-5 on the low side.
One example of how to shift would be 1-2-3-4-5-9-10-11-12-13-14-15. They are really just a 10 speed with an extra bull low gear. -

Hey Doug, in front of your load, above your fender, looks like a tire...what is that? -
The only 15 speed I ever drove had a blue button on the shifter but it didn't split the gears. Start of in low low and shift 1-2-3-4-5 select low shift 4-5 select high side shift 6-7-8-9-10. If you start in low low you don't use all 15 gears. Only 12. If you don't use low low it's just like a 10 speed.
