So I'm having some issues with input shafts on my transmission (RTX-15615). My old input shaft was an 18837, which has been replaced/updated by part number S-1409. Well the gear teeth on the S-1409 shaft are narrower than the old 18837 shaft, which means the shaft has some rotational play when installed in the drive gear. Is this normal or is there an updated input drive gear that needs to be mated to this particular input shaft? The old shaft meshes into the gear with no rotational play whatsoever.

That's what I'm thinking. I might call Eaton directly and see what they say.

If you look on eatons website, roadranger.com you can download the parts manual for your trans and verify the numbers.

I'm using that right now. The input shaft should be the correct number. Just the drive gear I need to verify. Hopefully there's a number on it that I've overlooked.

I have ran into that before when replacing worn input shafts. In my case the input shaft that I thought was wrong matched up to the old one. Yes it looked wrong and ran for years just like the first one.
Yes I would double check all the numbers but they don't all fit so close anymore.
If you reuse a shaft with slight wear at the clutch splines dress it. 3" cut off wheel? to knock the bump off at the end of the worn area. It takes very little to make a clutch drag, not fully release, and you can go there again.Oxbow, rank, wore out and 1 other person Thank this. -
My biggest concern was shearing the gear teeth off the shaft while going from coasting to power or power to coasting. I just don't want to have to drag the transmission back out again shortly after having it opened up.
rank Thanks this. -
Gear is item #5. Shaft is item #7. Old part number for the shaft is what came out. New number (S-1409) is what I have.
My drive gear had the old number (K-19642) stamped into it but someone, likely a rebuilder, had attempted to scribe it off and had freehand engraved the new part number (20460) onto it.Oxbow and snowman_w900 Thank this. -
Old shaft left, new shaft on right.Oxbow, rank and snowman_w900 Thank this. -
Sorry for multiple posts. Uploading issues. Old p/n scribed off and updated number freehand engraved. No idea if its going to work ok or not?
