Another quick question. Rebuild kit did not include an input shaft seal. The original seal is obviously toast (spring from the lip seal is all torn up). Eaton P/N is 16977 for the seal. Went to SKF's seal crossover page and came up SKF P/N 22424 and speedy sleeve 99225. Just wondering if anyone has used that site to cross over seal P/N's and if it's accurate. Also if anyone has ever speedy sleeved the seal wear surface on the shaft? the one I'm hoping to use has a small nick in it.

Ive never seen a input seal on a 13-15 or 18. And ive installed new input shafts on all of them.
There is a small felt like gasket on the shaft from new but thats only there to stop oil coming out while the trans is in shipping from factory.
As far as im aware there is no input shaft seal. The shaft itself has a backwards spiral grove machined into it to divert oil back into the transmission and fits fairly snug in the removable plate the shaft goes thru.Last edited: Feb 14, 2017

I'm positive there is a lip seal on this one. I can see what looks to be a lip seal as well as the little spring that sits in behind the lip inside the seal carrier that bolts to the front of the housing. The spring is chewed up a bit, which I think explains my oil leak inside the clutch housing.

Wierd well you got me stumped.
Every shaft ive seen has those groves.
Maybe thats the diffrence -
Yeah everything seems to be pretty oddball on this truck. This is only the 2nd transmission I've had apart so I have no idea what is "normal" and what isn't on these. I will definitely post pictures of the seal and all that once I get it sorted out.

When I looked up "skf seal 22424" in Google, this was the pic that came up. Seems like I've got an oddity here lol.

I do remember the P&H and Manitowoc craines that had Cummins with external fuel lines. To increase clutch freeplay shims were removed between the pressure plate and flywheel. Turn the engine 360 to loosen all the bolts. Turn another 360 and pull two shims off each bolt when they come by. Turn another 360 to tighten them all up. But I don't remember that. If it fits shoot us a picture of that.
