    J. Michael,

My sympathies on the loss of your wife. I'm not familiar with your local economy and wage structure, but lacking lengthy experience, the wage sounds okay. I have less than a year OTR, take winters off, and only want part-time the rest of the year. I recently found and hourly, seasonal, part time driving job that should meet my needs. I enjoyed OTR, but conditions at my former company have deteriorated, and I don't care for all the uncompensated work that is part & parcel with OTR.

Best wishes to you in adjusting to widower and new work..

Most truck stops I have used is $10 for a shower if I don't have points on my card. I have paid 7 at a few and 3 at one. There are a couple out there that have free showers and free coffee even if you don't buy fuel or service plaza's on the tolls are free.

Sorry about your loss. Take the local job get some more time in and then you can look for a better tanker job. Hourly pay is guaranteed and miles aren't. At home when you get in your truck your being paid while your waiting to be loaded or unloaded. Best of Luck

Sorry to hear that! That is always a concern of mine. What would happen if something happens to my wife and I am on the road. We have a daughter at home and no family in the same state. I am sorry for your loss. I hope you find what you need to stay at home.

I dont have to put up with logs, showers, being away from home, being away on weekends, driving odd hours (ya never know what hrs ), waiting to get loaded or undoaded cause i'm paid by the hr nt by the mile, sleeping in a sleeper in a truck stop with NOISE because the guy next to you runs his truck all #### night or has a refer, bad materesses in the sleeper, dispatchers that go home and you have to deal with idiots especailly on the weekend when I sit most of the time and your regular dispatcher is off so you sit for 5 or six or whatever hrs when you should be running!, Doing 34 hr restarts somewhere out there sittin in the truck. When I could be sittin at home. etc etc etc. No life at all for me except if you want to "See the country" HA!! all the roads are the same!! Tar and concrete! They tried to break me today my first day! I need a garmin or something to find my way around local city P&D my biggest thing is finding my way around. Any suggestions on this would be very helpful. So i Guess for now $16.00 hr is not all that bad for only 4 months experience. It's just a step job anyhow. Then UPS or FEDEX or something like that. Union YES thats the next step. any thoughts on this ?

I would forget the GPS and get a Thomas Guide for your area.

You can find them at a good book store or even online.
