16 ply vs 14 ply on steers

I run these and most other car haulers run this size. I run heavy on the steer when loaded with a 14,600 front axle. I don’t know if there would be any advantages for you to run them but they ride just fine and handle weather great. I don’t run them more than 100,000 miles because I pull them off early to use on my trailer. I use a 3.25 offset flat faced wheel that gives them a wider stance and they wear perfectly even.

I’ve only ever run 16 ply Michelin, the first set I put in the truck I got 150k out of them when I put new ones on and I moved the old ones to one of the farm trucks which are still on the front of it to this day.

16s here as well. They just dont seem to get damaged as easily doing dump work as the 14s. Ancidotal i know but i went through 3 sets of 14s in a year and have yet to blow a 16. Cost diffrence is basically zero as well so eh.

I do not condone this practice but i do go around and kick tires during my day to make sure none have picked up a bolt and gone flat4wayflashers Thanks this. -
