I am at 162 training hours, 240 needed, and I don't think I can finish. I am trying so hard...but I am so sick, and Swift is not helping me.

My question is if I decide to get off this truck have I blown all chances with another company? And, will I most likely have to complete the full training period with a new Co.?

I asked my DM (and documented it) to get off this guys truck due to health issues 8 days ago...and he never called me back!
Mentor has a dirty truck, had cats in it.. I have asthma and it is killing me. I use an inhaler 1x a day at home. While in this truck I am now up to 3x a day. I feel sooo sick and don't know what to do.

My DM was so mad I asked, because he is mentor #2. My 1st mentor told me I had to go to the bathroom outside in the woods, or she would get me a 5 gallon bucket... so I got off her truck..
Now when I asked to get off this truck he made a huge deal about even asking, said he would call back never did..nor did he return any of my calls!

I think you if you bail now.......................then you are up the creek without a paddle (to put it politely)

Can you not get any kind off masks to wear?
If i understand correctly ,it is the dust that hurts your astma.
I know you will look silly but it is only for a short time.

    80 hours...........that's like a week and a half?

    Goodluck
    Let us know what happen.

I just had the best laugh in a long time...just a vison of me wearing the mask. But it is a good idea to get me through this.
My Father said I would be prob. be black balled in the end, and he suggests to stick it out and try to get as much fresh air as possible.

    I shall keep you posted.

You already have your CDL correct? If so then no you are not without options if you do have to leave. Some companies will not hire you because of it but others will give you a chance if you explain it was do to a medical problem that was caused by the trainers lifestyle.

Probably the best advice is to call safety and mention 3 little letters. ADA. That's the Americans w/ Disabilities Act and it requires employers to make reasonable accommodations for people with a disability. Asthma qualifies.

pjay, i too have breathing problems when it comes to the seasons and cat's. i had a cat and developed an allergy, but i could not get rid of the animal. your situation may of course be exasperated by a higher number of former cats living in that truck.

all i can say is what someone else did day, call your safety dept.

and someone else said, you only have abut a week or so left.

    this is a toss up.

your health IS important, but if you bail, you may be "blackballed" to further employment.

tough call, i know, but ,YOU DID choose to get into this, and part of getting into trucking, is paying your dues, one way or another over the time you learn and grow.

i have faith in you to get it done.

don't let me down, my fellow New Englander....!!!

in time, you will gain your experience, and move onto another more localized company, probably right around the Rte 6 area.....

Not to be rude. The reason for wanting off the truck is over pet dander, or cat hair etc because of asthma. You have that cat in the pic against your face. Are you sure it's just not the life style your allergic too. Being in a truck 24/7 is tuff and not for everyone. Being that you don't have atleast six months OTR you will still have to work with a trainer at another company. I would put up another pic as well. It will make your story seem a little more credible. Good luck with everything..

Well your DM is a no go as they think of you as a pain in the arss.

If you bail your done, the big companies are going to look at that and won't be willing to give you a chance.

What I would do is clean the hell out of that filthy pig truck your in. I mean what's your "mentor" going to say, stop cleaning my truck?

You could also let the cat out at the nearest rest stop, I'll bet you could get a new trainer real quick if you do that.... Make sure it has a tag.
