Detroit BK 12.7L - Leon tuned to roughly 525hp and I bought a turbo from him at the time, 75mm w/ 11 blade wheel. - 6 years ago.

V-band holding the cartridge had a mishap and the thing is now ####eyed and wont come apart, seized. I broke the flanges off trying to get it apart.

Need new Turbo. Im going to buy a BW 171702 as its spec'd exactly to what I have except compressor wheel.

I pulled the 11 blade wheel off the old turbo, does anyone know if would be worth swapping it onto the new turbo? Mostly highway truck 35k lbs max weight. When I installed the turbo and had it tuned it spooled as fast as the stock one.... Just wondering if that was the tune or the turbo mostly? The wheel was supposed to be some magic voodoo wheel.
    Thanks.

Update. New turbo purchased from Summit Racing. 840 w/ taxes. FYI... I was at the PRI show (huge automotive and race trade show) in Indy a few years back talking to the Borg Warner rep and he told me they were having a huge problem with counterfeit turbos coming in and people getting ripped, contacting them for warranty and they were fakes.... So I seen several online for significantly less, 569. was cheapest.... but some rinky-dink diesel shop.... how do you know its a legit real BW?
Which leads me to my second question....... It was March 2020 I purchased a turbo from Leon Smith, the popular tuning guru. I was told it was a Borg Warner with his designed compressor wheel on it. When it showed up, no markings, generic box, I asked him about it... He said they had to be made with blank covers because he was a BW dealer and him customizing it with his wheel they could not be marked and sold as BW turbos...

My new BW turbo showed up... it is nothing like the leon one. Even the exhaust housing is about 1.5" shorter so I had to adjust my downpipe some.
Maybe he just used the cartridge?... IDK.

I guess since no one knows I will be the test mule to see how it stock BW wheel works compared to Leon's 11 blade billet wheel.

Lots of knockoff chinese turbos out there... IDK if BW makes one with a blank compressor cover but the one I got from Summit has the Borg Warner name cast into it. The pic on their website shows a blank cover (no name).. ?? So I dont know how to tell if you got a real one or not unless you buy from a big dealer.

Old topic, eBay was fluttered with B/W Chinese knock offs. You get what you pay for.

May not mean anything, but I always saw the green and yellow paint on my turbos too. I always buy from the dealer.

Let us know how it does. I've not had good luck with that turbo myself, yes, even though the "experts" say it's better.
