18 months with the same company, and they just gave me an excessive line 2 warning.

    If you’re doing a 34 it looks suspect with zero off duty time. When I did 34’s on the road and didn’t get a motel room I’d usually switch to off duty in the morning and back to SB that night. During the day I’d be in and out of the truck, walking the dog, etc. Same when I’d park for the night, usually off duty for 30 minutes or so then into SB. Then usually off duty again in the morning for 20 minutes or so before going on duty. Just makes things look more believable.

    They won't, but some seedy tort lawyer might. Yet another reason the entire HOS regime needs to be reformed, starting with eliminating the 70 hour rule, and eliminating the "Sleeper Berth" category. And of course the eight hour rule needs to go too.

    I just logged as I did it. I would log off-duty during the day and when I went to bed switched to sleeper. Once I got up in the morning switched backed to off-duty.

    It does look a little suspicious that a driver never left sleeper for 34 hours. Just tell them you have a bucket in truck for bathroom and fridge and microwave. Or just log off- duty when you get up for the day.

    Wouldn't you technically be on duty for a few seconds while changing duty status from sleeper to off duty? Since we're nitpicking and all....

    Thank goodness for these fine toothed office people and the excellent work they do. It's baffling to think trucks were just driving around all willy nilly before the time we're in now!

    My first trainer used to log sleeper when he would take home time. Even as a newbie, I knew that was not correct, but totally didn't care. They were his logs. When I asked him about it, he said he would tell anyone who checked his logs he was in his bed at home. I am not making that up. He wasn't a funny guy, so he wasn't trying to get a laugh.

    Since the FMCSA has said phone calls from dispatch don’t interrupt your break I doubt they’d agree that pressing a button on your eld constitutes being on duty for a fraction of a second.

    I always just logged off duty. Even when doing my reset in a truck stop parking lot. I knew I was playing with fire according to the rules but F it.

    That'll bit you if you ever want to do a split sleeper. The eight hour portion has to be in the sleeper berth.
