Boss picked us up the first 18 speed tri axle we’ve ever had in the fleet this week. Can I shift it like a 9 speed with 25 ton on it? I’ve always run our 13 speeds like a 9 without any issues unless climbing real steep hills I don’t want to be in for a surprise this week.

The Mack 18 in high split is the exact same gear ratios as the Mack 9. The only difference between the Mack 13 and Mack 18 is the pin in the shift knob that locks out the high split in the low range for the 13.
As long as you aren't lugging, it won't hurt anything by not splitting the gears.Justrucking2, Lepton1 and Woodchuck88 Thank this. -
It has a Eaton Fuller in it, but it should be very similar I’d think
-
The gear ratios are different. The EF has more differences between the transmissions, too.
Still won't damage it by not splitting every shift, though.Justrucking2 and Woodchuck88 Thank this. -
She have mack rears too? My dads looking at a 1999 set toward axle ch with mack 18 and mack rears.

You'll feel when you need to split the gears.
My advice is to use the low low reverse when you're loaded and Low low gears when you are off the road and use a nice low gear to pull out to be easy on the clutch.
I love those kinds of Transmissions. You always have a gear for every road speed.Woodchuck88 Thanks this. -
I would guess haven’t looked that close, this one is a 06. Picked up at an auction.

“High split” is also known as direct, right?
Is that forward on the switch, or back? -
One mack we looked at was a twin stick, had low, direct, overdrive on one and 1-6 on the other I told him that one is not for me.

You wouldn’t likely have had a bit of trouble out of that.Brettj3876 and Woodchuck88 Thank this.
