No reason you can't. Other than insurance, and not being able to cross state lines - yet.

 

Insurance is the biggie. It could literally be $50k per year, and you might not even be able to get it at all. Check that out first before you bother with anything else. We had a couple guys here recently go through the whole process only to find out one of them couldn't afford insurance, and the other one couldn't even get it at all, and they were both even older than you.

 

Just start with insurance. If it works, then get a truck and run. But bottom line is intrastate is already hard. Box truck makes it even harder. Your insurance payment will likely make it impossible.

If you just want to be a trucker for now, and get your authority later, post your city and state, and @Chinatown can probably help you find a job.
