I think I'll remove the steering setup and replace the idler arm pictured above with a powered steer box. The passenger side will stay a steering cylinder or be changed to a slave gear box.

Well the system has been around since the 40's. if you want to see how it works, find info on Ford power steering systems, basically the same principle.
The system works well when it is fixed right.
You bleed the system the same way that you bleed any other ps system, lock to lock several times.
If you need seals, try motion industries for one source, there are other sources that can match them up, but I would also buy a few extras of everyone one and package them up with details of what they are because if you don't use the truck, they may dry out plus you can help others out.haycarter Thanks this. -
I had that problem years ago in Shelbyville Kentucky at the west bound scales which are no longer there. That was on hydraulic assist steering, not power steering.Ruthless Thanks this. -
I do believe someone else was having that same problem though, dot Inspecter had ZERO real world experience, only knew what they read in a book.spsauerland and Ruthless Thank this.

Yea. I can’t think of who tho.. -
You are correct.... the Orings will give major fits when worn or split, allows the fluid to bypass to another port causing the system to fight against itself.
I had to fully rebuild ours on the 76 W900A, all because of a inexperienced and I knowledgeable woman with a dot badge and huge ego!!haycarter Thanks this.
