1972 Kenworth W900A turn signal issue

When trucks were trucks. I meant no disrespect, it's a cool truck. My experience with conventionals, is where the hood tilts, a bad spot for wiring. Cabovers too had that same issue. The 1st road truck I drove was a '77 W9, with "torture bar" suspension. I loved the metal dash on those, and the rocker switches that lit up. Reason I said the signals the least of the troubles, is electrics are the bane of the old truck owner. I found, rather than try and find the bad wire, just run a new one. Good luck.

 

Age means nothing. There are a lot of good solid, reliable old trucks out there that work hard and give no bad attitude back. Most times going back to the basics so to speak is the best way in life.

 

The electrics are also the bane in a new truck. But with an old truck u can use a test light and common sense to fix wires. In new ones you need an electrical degree and 1,000’s of dollars worth of tools. On old ones one bad wire to a cup holder temperature sensor isn’t going to put engine in limp mode. Lol.

 

Nice. It must be a late ‘72. It has the newer paddle style door latches. ‘72 was a transition year on the doors. Early’s still had the T-handles up towards the top. Late’s got the lower mounted paddles. Cool ride for sure.

 

OK read through this and it seems many don't know that there are five versions of this switch.

So let's start with this - what model of switch do you have?

I think for that truck, you need a 901 or 902 switch because it needs brake light power.

The next question I have is have you pulled the light in the rear or front and see if there is continuity from the socket to the switch? It is not easy to do if you know how to do it, but it tells you quick if you have a wiring problem, which I think you do have.
