1980 K100 Cabover Project/daily runner

Okay these are the issues I inherited when i bought her. (good news lots and lots work done to her in 2007 got the receipts new rams and all that fun junk)

Wiring as i figured. Dash lights don't work, 95 percent guages dont work tach, Speedo, trans temp, diff temp, good oil pressure. Smokes a little. Rear main or tranny leaks right there. Frame is on amazing condition. No pitting really no major rewelds and every thing else. Inside really nice condition. Hate the mirrors... Pancakes didn't leak nor did I blow a wheel seal yesterday. Another 65 mile journey in couple minutes

 

This is going sound really dumb where the hell is the fuse panel

 

It's in side the panel where your switches are at. Above the doghouse.

Go to your local KW dealer and get a copy of the original line sheet when it was built. Was 9 pages for the 1995 glider in my avatar.

 

You will find mostly breakers, very few fuses. The dash wiring on those KW's are a disorganized birds nest. Compare to a Pete or Freightliner and see for yourself. There is a dimmer for the dash lights. Check that first.

 

Leave the aluminum frame alone, if it does not have any problems you are good to go. If you bolt any steel to it use stainless bolts if possible and put a protective film between aluminum and steel. I use 3 m paint protection film comes in a role. I run a 1977 352 Peterbilt and have no issues with getting parts. You can get or make almost anything aftermarket.
If you really feel the need to replace frame rails check with P G Adams they make custom steel rails.
I have always ran old stuff and resurrected many a truck from the bone yard. Replace all wheel seals, breaks and fuel and rubber lines. Clean tanks change all fluids. Replace as many wires as needed don't slplice don't use crimps solder terminals. Do everything the best the first time so you don't fix twice. Good luck.

 

If doing much wording I bought a power probe ( look up on YouTube) it's great as it will provide power and ground at the probe plus many other functions it is a real time saver. This is not a sales pitch I have no interest in power probe I just think it is a must have for every tool box especially f dealing with truck and trailer electric .
