I got around the low 6's on my old '79 Int with a 6V92TTA @ 335 HP. Straight 10 spd and 4.10 rears. That was idling most every night and running a pretty good speed.
-
thank you not whats in it he just said v6 ? with a 9 speed do you know what all v6 was out then??
-
The only thing I know of in production then was a 6V92 Detroit. They came in various ratings, with the TTA 335HP being the highest road truck, if I remember right. There were several HP ratings, which should be on the decal on the valve cover.

6v92 Detroit. What memories that brings back. I think they went up to 350 HP. They are a high winding engine. Not worth a darn on long pulls , but if you keep the RPMs up , they do OK in rolling hills. Used to use a 1/4 inch bolt , to override the governor . That baby would stroll , then , and got better fuel mileage to boot. 6s , at least.
It's a 2 stroke engine. I think it had a gear driven supercharger , plus the turbo.
Used to joke that the way to drive one , was to sit in the drivers seat , slam the door on your foot , then you'd be in the right mood to go!
Darn things always leaked oil.
If its a v-6 , it a 6V92 . They made an 8V92 , too. I drove one of them , before I drove the 6V92.
They were the small block Chevys of the trucking world.Cabover Mike Thanks this. -

All good engines but obsolete . They can still be found in industrial and marine tho. I made many a nickle with a 238 and a 318.
I remember my 238 was so wore out I had to wrap the air cleaner with a gas rag every day.......... and smoke? All kinds of cool colors.
Just be careful, they will run backwards..........it happened to me.
