Looking at those pics closer, I would come straight out of the rear hsg with 90* elbows then the valves. I would use both ports in that hsg too, instead of running both returns to one.
I would run the hoses along the top of the frame rail with frame clips and insulated clamps.
And my opinion only, tank heaters are unnecessary, and offers too many more failure points, especially on a 40 yo truck.
They are usually the first thing I get rid of. -
Ill re route the coolant lines when I'm home next week. Keep them closer. I'm not getting rid of my tank heater. I need them. -40 degree temps without the windchill ain't any time to be messing round with gelling up diesel. I did run the ole girl for 2 years before she rejected a piston. -
Ditch the ball valve for the tank heater. You should use the gate valves that normally come on those engines. That way you can regulate the coolant flow to the fuel tank in case its getting too warm. Also, Fass fuel system has a heater that you can add onto their pump, so you have heated fuel on a cold start. You can get away with #2 diesel if you do this, within reason of course. The cost difference between #1 and #2 would pay for the heater, if you can find #2 in the north during winter.
Also, your half inch pipe manifold is orientated so that it will loosen with vibrations. You could just use one 3/4 in gate valve that has a heater hose barbed end, and then tee off of the hose if you need to.Magoo1968, BoxCarKidd and Adisiwaya Thank this. -
Interesting post on controling flow and the Fass system.

We got the air bags plumbed in all the way, all the bolts tighten on them, got the tranny filled up with fluid, got air lines situated on the governor, replace back 2 brake cans.
Gotta get new tranny shifting air lines, crap i bought before are metric, prob new alt pully the old one is a keyed pulley this is a friction fit, find V clamp for the blow by tube (dont wanna buy new one at kw told me its 60$), new ac o rings cuz lost my whole box of them which sucks, do some wiring for headlights. Replace the turn signals on the hood these have water in them. Replace 4 drives and 2 steers. And reconfigure the tranny and throttle linkaged then should be good.
Well balls to the wall now. Had a pretty bad failure of my 6nz i have in the pete so shes down without major work. Nut and bolt came loose in the head well worked away hit cam roller cause bunch of damage and hole in the head. (Just had overhead not to long ago and also shop said it was a a sensor that was causing it to run wierd... nope.)
Im off to the store for linkages for the throttle and clutch. Been a complete #### show of a week with truck going down using rental truck doing livestock loads on little sleep and drive truck home to have it go boom right when i go into the driveway.. friday was a stressful day Saturday and sunday work lmao more and more do i envy people with a actual shop to work in instead of crawling in mud and dealing with swarms of mosquitosSons Hero and Deere hunter Thank this. -
Second that on gate valves.MACK E-6, Deere hunter, Magoo1968 and 4 others Thank this. -
Is there any trick to installing shifter tower? I can not get the sh**t to line up at all no room underneath to see what I'm doing. Wife dropped detent spring in the tranny so I'm not having a good day.
BoxCarKidd Thanks this. -
I thank that is kind of an aquired skill. Take a break and try again? Try again tomorrow? Ask the 10 year old child next door to help and some times things just fall into place.
You have been doing a lot of swapping. Are you sure the stick will even fit that transmission?Adisiwaya Thanks this. -
Going to try tomorrow. Stress and lack of sleep didn't help the problem we both are rushing and well that's when mistakes happen. This is the same tranny and model had to order it. Having issues getting the shifter stick in the fork hole.... when is daylight going look and see what I'm doing. Gotta get tranny air lines and 4 drives and 2 steer tires tomorrow tooSons Hero, circle h and Deere hunter Thank this.
