Found a good deal on this truck with the 3406b but I’m wondering what empty-medium size loads are going to bring for fuel mileage.
I run a small tree service/logging operation so there will be a lot of driving around usually light. The truck is a GMC Auto Car with the husky crane and grapple, tandem axle.
Anyone have a rough ball park on what fuel mileage I’ll get when empty? What about with 12-15,000lb of load?
Thanks,
Adam

Probably somewhere around 4 to 5

Those old trucks prior to computer engines would be doing well to get 5 mpg empty and closer to 4 loaded depending on terrain.
If you only had say a 60 gallon tank, you filled it at 1/3 tank always that way you do not run out trying to do a full days driving etc. -
Yeah that’s about what I figured. I was hoping it would push more being on a smaller straight truck. Well my only other options are similar trucks but with 6.6l, 7.8l new Holland’s, and the 3208 10.4l cat lol so I’ll choose the 3406 and deal with the fuel mileage for the power and reliability.
El turbo Thanks this. -
Any idea what this thing weighs?

I was guessing 16-18,000 empty but I’m probably off.

You think the single axle with a 20ft bed and a 6,000lb national crane would weigh about the same?
-
Here it is

Guy will take $2850 for it and the crane is worth more than that. I think the National 556b is worth $5000-$7000

But it has the 6.6l new holland. I’ll be slugging it...
