Hello thank you for allowing myself to join. I was given a 1993 9400i as a bonus and it is in really good condition barring the windshield and dashboard It has a Detroit series 60 that runs great. Ok the question I have is how do you remove the windshields and how to install the new ones. I bought a brand new pair this morning. I can't drive it to the service center cause I don't have insurance and I have two bad rear tires and don't want to get pulled over. The nest thing will be insurance then the tires Please help me as I am restoring this truck and want to make it new. Thanks so much for your help. Mike..

If it is like the IH trucks in school I think the front glass is held in with a rubber gasket. The gasket is like an H and the glass sits on one side and the pinch weld of the body on the other side. Old VW bugs were the same way and below is how I replaced them.

If it is like the VW glass wearing the right gear bust out the glass not hurting the rubber gasket and noting what side is in/out and top/bottom. Once glass is out take the gasket make sure it is clean and install it on the good glass. Now take a heavy string and soak it in liquid dish soap. Starting at top (guess you could start at the bottom if the string was started from the bottom?) (on VW the dash/heater vents got in the way of working the rubber and why we started string from top and set the bottom in first) of gasket fit it in the opening the pinch weld goes in and work it all the way around over lapping back at the top about a foot or more.

Now take the glass, gasket w/string to the truck and fit the bottom of gasket over the pinch weld. Now pull the string (king of 180* and down) so that it folds over the rubber gasket and pulls it over the pinch weld. It helps to have someone on the outside pushing in firmly on the glass & gasket to help it into position. Work the string little each side till they are both at the corners then you can work each side a little at a time till the gasket is back over the pinch weld.

Clean up with a little water and you are done.

If it is glued in you are on your own.

which year did they start gluing the windshields? This truck has a cut in the seal all around the windshield like it's meant to be removed. I may take a chance and remove the center part of the windshield and see how it;s held in.
