1994 Cummins 8.3 275hp

    Is this a good motor ..can the be turned up to around 350 without a lot of problems..looking at a dump truck with 1 but don't know much about them..I have a 97 m11 now that's been a great motor 280hp but its ECm controlled..thanks for any help

    If it carries the same yards you will be very disappointed. Good motor yes but it is not an M11 or even an L10.

    I know a guy that had a 8.3 in the 90's in a Ford L9000 quad axle dump truck. Had it pushing over 400 HP. It performed ok, but he had a heck of a time keeping head bolts from stretching and popping head gaskets. When it sold it was needing overhauled again and guy that bought it put a Big Cam in it. 8.3L is good for tandem or single axle.

    Ok that’s fine and dandy that the hp can be turned up. I have my 425 cat turned up over a hundred hp. One thing that doesn’t change much is the torque. And that’s where it counts and where you can feel it pulling a load on the low end. Unloaded, your gonna feel some increase. But when loaded you’re not gonna feel much. So quick answer to your question you absolutely will not get much of an improved feel of pulling power out of the very small ci Cummins
