As I remember D12A and D12B engines had uncontrolled fan clutch filled with silicone, ECM controled fan appeared with D12C in 1997.
So if you have air controlled fan clutch look for temperature switch.

    Is it Wight GMC truck?

There were 50 '94 Volvo cabovers in TransPele (380 and 420 hp), and all fans were not controled, sometimes there were fan clutch bearing faults. seized bearing!!!
