I currently have a 97 FLD daycab, great little local truck, got it for $4k..it's got about 948k miles on it. S60 12.7 DD, anyways I recently found out the #5 injector cam lobe is pretty worn. The truck isn't cosmetically beautiful but it doesn't owe me a dime...and there are quite a few other things it could use fixing. Suspension is starting to wear, etc. anyways saw a 1998 Peterbilt 385 daycab for sale locally. Asking $16,500. It's got a 10spd, C12. 171wb, nice little local daycab and appears to look nice and not thrashed in the photos. They didn't list it's mileage, I was gonna call them and see. It has a wet kit so I'm concernced about idle time etc. they said it had "great dyno and oilsample"
anyways, anything I should watch out for specifically? If it was recently rebuilt I think it'll be a steal! Any advice? I'd like it to last me a good 2-3 years.

I don't think i'd worry too much about idle time just because it has a wet kit. When you are using PTO on the truck, you generally run it up to at least 1100 rpm. that's not idle. Also, just about any truck can have a lot of idle time on it, especially if is was a company truck, which it most likely was if it's a day cab. I'd just have it checked out, including having an oil sample drawn. Personally, I wouldn't trust their oil sample. If you don't know them, it would be a mistake. Hopefully, they didn't service it yet. I'd also have the box oils checked. If your current truck is nickle and diming you now, it may be a good time for a change. -
What do think you will gain ny getting a truck that is only one year newer than what you already have?
