I have a 1999 peterbilt 379 EX. I just purchased it a few days ago. The tach is very spuratic , sometimes it works sometimes it doesnt. Any advice on where to start to fix it would be great thanks.

where to start to fix it is at your local pete dealership and get a new one. tachs are not repairable by the average person, heck they probably do not get fixed, but replaced anyways... -
I was just told about some wiring issues on the flywheel and that sort of thing , and was wondering how that worked

check the wiring on it if you can, possibly a ground. personally i wouldnt want to frig around with it. i hate wires so much. id take it to a mechanic or just leave it. you dont really need a tach that bad.

what i do not understand is this, as it stands right now, this is the second person that bought a used truck, and has a problem..
are these people buying these trucks, "as-is, as-seen", and no warranty..?? i mean how can someone throw away money (wish i could) and NOT get some kind of warranty, or the items fixed BEFORE taking delivery..??
i see another in the long line of failed owner-operators, due to lack of buying experience, common sense and business savvy.... -
blairandgretchen Thanks this.

no common sense, no business sense.....o.m.d. Thanks this. -
well the tach is the only issue with the truck and I already fixed it myself loose wire on the back of the tach. How can you judge failer or not by a tach not working geez

2X checking the ground. Also I believe the source for the tach is the R term off the alternator, if you have a meter, I would check the signal at that end.
