I ripped my landing gear when driving down the Pennsylvania Parkway. The maintenance man gold my company that it was cranked all the way up. My question is does this happen a lot around the country?

I guess I'm not understanding what happened here. Why did someone, or you, rely on another person to tell if the landing gear was up all the way?

Like did it stop cranking and the maintenance man said that must be all it will go? And then you tore it off driving down the road because it wasn't up all the way?

    What maintenance man?
It doesn't matter who said what, you're the one responsible for doing a complete pretrip, including making sure your landing gear is all the way up.

No, that doesn't happen. Especially on the pa parkway. That's a major road.

No, landing gear that is cranked up all the way does not get "ripped off" while driving down a major throughway, on the pavement. Do you mean Pennsylvania Turnpike?

I have heard urban legends of drivers having their gear rolled [much of the way] down while at a truck stop, and later sustained damage, but I always chalked this up as a driver trying to absolve themselves of their screw-up, and thus claimed they were "sabotaged"

First, I would suggest you EDIT your post and start off with I SCREWED UP AND I FORGOT TO CRANK UP THE LANDING GEAR so people don't go on this thread and bash you for hiding information. And NO, this doesn't happen a lot.

I'll say it!! I have on more then one occasion forgot to roll up the landing gear. Once I made it 20 miles and there was no damage. The other times only a few feet and then sucker light came on above my head.

I've had that bolt on the landing gear break a few times but on those occasions I was cranking it down or up. Never had a leg just come down while rolling.

    So what really happen compadre??
