I know we're paid hourly up here in Portland. In about 5.5 months, I've grossed about $35k, which includes the first 6 weeks of that at training pay. Up here, I couldn't imagine working anything but hourly, but it's different in every part of the country. And no, I don't milk it.

Yeah it's bad. I figured it could be all over. We have some older stores that don't even have vapor recovery, you just vent the trailer.
I agree. If we had more waiting and traffic and such then I wouldn't mind being hourly.
23 years of age and two years tractor trailer experience is what our company requires.
If we had as much traffic as yall do I would want hourly too lol.

I've talked to my boss about it, he assured me we would never go to hourly pay, and I'm glad. For our terminal, percentage is the best for us. We have too many drivers that just want to run two loads and go home. One of those drivers is always complaining that he can't move any faster and be safe. Well, I've done in 3.5 hours what takes him 6 without rushing or having an accident.

I've had two accidents, both due to my negligence and I learned from them. I don't rush, I just keep myself moving. I have ways of saving time I learned from my trainer. At the end of the night, unless I'm making $30/hour, I'd rather just keep being paid the way I get paid.

I don't want hourly because I'd feel like I have to work more hours to make more money. I'd rather work less and make more.

We have two drivers that I know of that went to work for pilot, but couldn't make any money. He told me he got 8 hours worth of work and had to stretch it to 12 hours in order to make a decent paycheck. I'd much rather not have to do that.

They take their time, that's fine. I'd rather get in and out and on to the next load. Especially if I get done early and can pickup a load someone else turned in.

Always been interested in hauling fuel tankers. Who knows, I might one day.

Glad you're a happy driver. Keep fuelin' 'em stations.

Thanks, I really enjoy it a lot!

I don't think I'll ever go back to pulling a box or a flatbed

    Off topic, a little.

How is this compared to the sheriffs office ? Money wise.

How is living in Jax ? Quality of life.

    Be safe driver.

At the sheriff's office I was working less hours but I make about double what I made there. Even with overtime at the SO I was only making about $32k/year.

As far as jax, it's much better than driving 3 hours round trip from hawthorne. I sleep so much better and on my off days I drive to palatka to spend time with my girlfriend. My parents live up here so I see them every now and then. More than when I lived in hawthorne, that's for sure.

Overall I miss the small country life, I'm not a city person, or an apartment person either, but I enjoy being close to work.
