Bought a 2014 t680 w/ 554k miles. DEF indicated 3/4 when I got in. Took me longer than I’m going to admit to realize it wasn’t moving. MIL light came on but no engine light. DEF tank never takes more than 2 gals. Gauge goes to full than drops to 3/4 quickly. Then weird things start happening if I don’t fill up with another 2gals. I’ve just started carrying an extra 2.5 gals with me. Sometimes the “STOP” light flashes for a mile then goes out. As soon as I put 2gals back in (and it shoots back out) everything goes back to normal. It’s getting expensive and time consuming. I’m new and on my own but 2gals to fill tank??? Never takes more.
2.5 gals of DEF then empty?

Should. be around 15 gallons. Something wrong
-
You left out a important part How Far can you travel on those two gallons .. part of me thinks you have a partial delete of def system.
-
Could be a DEF level sensor going bad.. or somebody was "tinkering" and botched it.

That’s normal consumption so most likely level sensor

System is goofed up. Get it fixed.
You do realize. If you run out of DEF. You’ll burn your truck down. Literally. -
I’m guessing the def quality sensor. If it is don’t ignore it and get it checked cause eventually it’ll leave you on the side of the road in limp mode. Not sure if paccar dealerships are back to stock with those sensors if they still aren’t they’ll probably have the truck computer bypass it. Your def gauge won’t work afterwards you gotta make sure it’s always full.

200 miles per gallon sounds about right. Since you have lights that come and go you should get in and get the def sensor checked. Your truck will derate if the computer thinks your def tank is empty.Magoo1968 Thanks this. -
After many phone calls with the sales guy and shop, they were given 3 choices:
1. Fix it
2. Provide a free rental
3. Make the truck & driver payments
Truck was on the road 2 days later. -
If they don’t have sensors available right now there is a software workaround. It’s been available since September. Just takes some paperwork from the dealer.
