Following up to my last post, and these 2 tips are just as valuable as those were.
Tip # 1
Your local unemployment office MAY work with you to provide tuition assistance (no payback, not a loan) through the WIA program
Call your local unemployment office and check out what they can do for you.
I'm hearing more and more about it, and if it helps you get a leg up without committing to a company, or taking a personal loan out, its a great idea.
Tip # 2
Nobody except one school (the one I chose) shared the recently passed NC law about having to wait 14 days from when you get your permit before you can start any truck driving on company property (backing drills) or the roads.
We have students in my class that are now in 'studying and watching limbo' due to the rule, versus me who actually had already passed the 14 days the day I began school.
I studied and got my CDL permit on my own before I visited any schools or called them, and I also got ALL my endorsements at the same time.
I also went and applied for and paid my TWIC and TSA Hazmat cards, which should be approved and in my possession in short order, due to my clean background, DMV and previous military secret clearance.
I had the cash reserves to do these things on my own, and I'm already seeing the benefits through the companies responses when I apply.
I have narrowed down a lot of my 2-year plan, so now it's just graduating at month end and executing it going forward monthly.
