I have a small trucking company with 4 trucks so far. 3 of them are semi-trucks pulling flatbed trailers all over the country. The 4th unit is a pickup truck that I use for hauling the cars (it pulls 4 car unit trailer).
Since those two kind of trucking business are totally different and have different insurance requirements (liability should be way lower for pickup truck but cargo needs to be higher) I need an advice how to separate those businesses. For now, I'm ending up paying higher liability for pickup truck and higher cargo insurance for all the trucks because of the pickup truck.
I was told that one person cannot operate under two different MC/USDOT numbers. Any thoughts how to separate those two kinds of businesses in the eyes of insurance carriers?
2 authorities under same name?

You insurance company should be able to write a policy designed for the lower requirements. If not shop around for a plan that suits your needs.

Buy cargo insurance from two different insurance providers, one for the trucks one for the pick up.as far as liability i dont think you loosing much money by paying a higher limit for the pick up.
