Coming back into GA from SC on I85, crossing lake Hartwell I look back on GA side north bound and see a new pole with 2 cameras on it and a wind mill at the top(must be for power generation) are they tracking people for speeding? (point to point) or keeping tabs who is leaving?
Also the i85 S weight scale flashed "truck must enter weight scale" at me, I was driving my 1 ton diesel with a 5x10 utility trailer so I pulled in got the left green pass thru arrow, this truck is for personal use only. What are they doing? Bored or....

That camera may have been for bridge surveillance for traffic coming into and leaving GA/SC. And GA is known to pull in non commercial vehicles in the scales especially those moving rental vehicles

You hit the pre-weigh entering the ramp, it's a small plate across the entry just off the highway, that determines really fast where you are on weight. If it's a certain value, you can pretty much gaurantee that you will be weighed.
Otherwise it's their decision to bypass you or not.
Many scales have beefed up various technology. Knoxville westbound now scans for radiation etc, has been for years. (Oak Ridge is not far from there, the original WW2 manhattan project for nuclear)
Maryland has cameras that read tags on every vehicle passing into on the interstate system. Troopers have interdiction/intercept ability should a particularly wanted vehicle pop up crossing that state line in a short time.
Russia has sold or otherwise improved mass detection cameras with facial recognzing for up to 36 lanes of free way traffic in real time so they say. That was years ago.
There are other technologies around scales. Generally with a big truck, pass one, the others in the Nation know where you were at that moment in time. Usually you are logging legal and hit the next one etc and follow you along with big data.
It's been evolving since a long time. Im not worried about it. Remember that if you are signed like you were to enter, enter. You did good from the looks of it. -
That scale on 85N South Carolina is ridiculous. Once while getting an overweight ticket, the officer asked me for the mile mark. Same scale has pulled me in more than a couple times bobtailing and pulled me around back to sit on the scale for 10mins.

There were many old time scales that existed in that part of the Nation, many are pretty much overgrown or paved over by a bigger rest area built on the site now. here and there. But I can remember some of the things that went on sometimes. Small things.
If any scale has my name on it it's the one in Dumfries VA, I pretty much removed it from my world bypassing that whole city for the remainder of my trucking time. -
I'm not sure how a scale would know that you were personal use only based soley upon you driving a "1 ton diesel?" Are 1 ton diesel's not allowed for commercial use? I typically make the determination whether a move is non-commercial based on an interview.
A bobtail is subject to the federal regs and are just as much subject to inspection as if you were pulling a trailer. We find a lot of violations on bobtails, especially considering a lot of drivers mistakenly believe that they are not subject to the federal rules when bob-tailing.
