Last week, in Texas, while on a 4 lane divided highway with a lot of traffic lights, a lady driving a new Lexus SUV, who was camped out in the left lane, was texting while she drove every time she passed me, which was like 3-4 times.

She had three small children in the back seat....two in kid seats.

I was hoping like hell she'd get stopped next to me at one of the redlights, but she finally eased off into the distance.....still in the left lane...texting away. (I would have jumped out and screamed at her, probably ended up in jail.)
She had the #### smartphone laying on top of the steering wheel, and was typing away with both hands. I can still see the #### smartphone, with some sort of pink cover on it.

The factory will be blame for making trailers to long and being difficult to pass, DOT for not having enough restrictions on the hwy. and County for not putting enough signs.:biggrin_2553::biggrin_2553:

They will sue the truck company for it. Happens all of the time.

Saw one doing the same on the laptop in the passenger seat.

Could not figure why they were getting so close to me on the highway in St. Louis. Finally slowed down and let them by.

It will never be done with it, when you are passed by officers texting and using the laptop. Had one that was all over their lane and hitting rumble strips.

You have to remember how these idiots think " gotta pass the big truck at all cost!" Same thing will happen today, tomorrow and the next day.

The thing is, it appears the SUV tried to pass the truck in a no passing zone right before it turns back into a passing zone. All she had to do is wait a few more seconds to clear the hill to pass legally - not that much traffic in that area on that road in the middle of farm country.

More details came out yesterday: the SUV that caused the accident had 3 adults and a toddler in it, all 4 were ejected (didn't say if they were wearing seatbelts or not but I would guess not).

I would say your guess is correct. I have yet to come on an accident where restrained people were ejected.

My guess is that the SUV backed out of the pass attempt and side swiped the semi causing him to loose control.
If I am on a stretch of road like this and someone wants to pass, I always back out of it a bit so they can pass quicker...

This area has seen several similar passing deaths. Maybe they should stripe this area NO PASSING although that doesnt mean people will follow it...
