Tmc was my first choice any I heard from them today. Some posts here said their agility testing during orientation was a little tough. Is it really that hard? Also I'd hate to take their offer and get sent home if I was to not pass it. Would roehl take me if I declined their offer and then at a later date accepted it? This is all new to me so bear with me!!

    any input is appreciated!!

    thanks!!

I'm not sure about either of these companies agility tests, I can say this, to go flat bedding you need to be pretty strong and agile to climb around on the freight, You have to throw tarps that weigh god only knows how much, then cinch straps chains and any other thing down so it doesn't move with a sudden stop from 60 to 0 now. This isn't my first Rodeo so I went into less strength needed dry box hauling, I like it that I throw a few straps in the trailer when requested and maybe a load lock and close the doors after it is loaded, I don't tie down the stuff so it won't fall off the trailer, I don't cover it up so no one can see what it is or to protect it from the elements! I close the doors and drive to its destination! I would certainly tell you where ever you do go to stay there for at least a year! Good Luck, Some one will be through here that can answer your exact questions!

Go with your first choice; if it doesn't work out there are other options.

Thanks guys!! This forum has helped me a great deal in my starting a new career. I can get around ok as I was up and down ladders during the last 25 years doing construction. Getting around ok for a 46 year old isn't getting around like a 26 year old!! Haha. We'll see how it goes!!!

I am right here in the baymont inn.. The agility test consist of stretches then stand on one foot for 30 seconds. Then stand on the other for 30 seconds. Pick up a 125 lb tarp carry it over to the flatbed, flip it on. Jump from the ground to the bed with no help (tire, icc bar, or ladder) pick it up off the deck. Lay it onto the top of a 40000 coil, 3 point contact around the other side of coil roll the tarp onto the other side. Roll it to the side of the tailor. Climb down the back using 3 points of contact pick up the tarp and carry it back to the start. If you watch and do what they say.. You won't even break a sweat!

Just remember it's not a race when securing a load or tarping. Take the time to do it right. You will learn little things to make it easier over time. Watch other people, a lot of the veterans in the industry are more than willing to help a new guy with a positive attitude. One thing I hated after more than 40 years was tarping/untarping in January with frozen tarps but it's all part of the job. Just make up your mind you're going to do it right and enjoy the fact you get a little exercise from time to time

My husband works for TMC and the 2 week orientation is not a cake walk by any means, but if it's something you really want, go for it!

My husband is in his third week of on-the-road training with an experienced driver. Word of warning if you have a wife/family, you won't likely be home but maybe once or twice once you make it to the 5-week OTR training, so you may want to prepare them for that. Honestly, I would just let them know not to expect to see you for the first five weeks, makes it easier really. Once you get your own truck, supposedly you are supposed to be home almost every weekend.

What I find interesting about this is they make you jump up to get on the trailer, but use three points of contact to get back down. Why not make you go up and down the same way. Besides that, no matter who you go with as your first choice if it doesn't work out the other one will still be hiring.
