I have been driving OTR for almost nine months. My first two months in training I backed into a guard rail at a rest area and put a dent in the refer tank. No other damages or persons or vehicles involved. No DOT report. No tow trucks.

Now just recently I was turning around in a parking lot and turned too sharp and the trailer came in contact with the back of the cab and cracked the air foil flaps for aerodynamics on the back of the cab of the tractor.

I really enjoy working for my current mega I am with now. Is my trucking career finished?

Your comapny probably will consider those to be accidents. At least incidents. But if they don't fire you then you better start paying attention to your job. No excuse for either of these if you had G.O.A.L.

Those flaps are called fairings. Most likely this will be handled internally as an incident. However in the future watch when your doing 180s. Yes, also try to remember to get out and check your clearances. Saves those trips to safety.

G.O.A.L., check your mirrors and have your head on a swivel.

You're not driving a car, you have a 53' trailer behind you, and until you know the physics of what the rear of that trailer can do or not do while you are turning, backing or attempting a u-turn, be very careful and turn slow and check your mirrors and if you're still not confident, G.O.A.L.

The rear overhang swing of a 53' trailer can do some major damage if you're not careful.

The fairings are also called rear cab extenders.

Yes, the single most thing that gets new drivers in trouble is these angles. When you are going down the road you don't see much of that trailer. However that sucker is 53 foot long. It takes a while to see this.

Yeah, they definitely will not lie if the trailer makes contact with them.
