With the Advancement of Anti Lock Brakes on Trailers.. I would Agree with Ridgeline..I pulled 80k loads and Id say about 20k in the box would stop Faster than 45k in the box.Especially with only a 2 axle trailer. Id say a 3 axle trailer (more brakes would stop even better than a 2 axle.If its a wet road(especially downhill EmptyThe old trailer would "Lock up" easy and increase stopping distance. Most semi wrecks Ive seen are heavy containers or log trucks "following to close" and hauling arse.JMO

I don't know the stopping distance of an empty versus a loaded trailer, so it's best to keep distance, just in case.BUMBACLADWAR and Lepton1 Thank this. -
The theory goes along the lines of.... mass means traction. Empty means you dont have mass holding the truck down,
Presuming your not on ice. I found the brakes on a truck worked as well as many pickups I had driven.Lepton1 Thanks this. -
20-25k in the box is happy medium. You want 25k pushing you down 8% grade or 46k back there forcing you to keep grabbing gears because you didnt see the banana peel and now your back side is racing you to the front. Not fun.
