thats the thing im not trying to rationalize anything what i did was illegal but i did it in the past, its over and done with. i have learned from all this to not do it again to push forward and stay straight. its just funny how ppl can get on here and say i dont want him to drive blah blah blah. i am in my own opinion a good driver i just liked to speed at one time but have since grown out of the childish antics that i once did and some ppl just want to bash me instead of help

Please read the above quote again. Time will fix your problem, and right now is not a good time. I'm not here to tell you what's right or what's wrong, the consequences of your actions is doing that. I'm quite sure everyone of us has suffered some consequences from our actions one time or another, hell, I know I have. Man up, let time take care of it and look at some other line of work that doesn't use the two biggest infractions against you in a job search.

It is over and done for you (in your mind) but it IS NOT over and done with from a potential employer perspective because it so recently occurred. Your continual day-to-day behavior and time will make it "over and done" in employer's minds...and isn't that the only change of mind that matters, as far as your becoming a professional driver?

Nobody is bashing you here...many of us have been in your shoes (the stories I could tell :biggrin_25518:). There is this fundamental truth in biostatistics we use...the best predictor of future behavior is past behavior. What you have to do is make your past behavior exemplary and you begin that with current behavior.

have slowed down to speed limits not flow of traffic:biggrin_2555: Sure hope the FLOW of TRAFFIC is doing the speed limit when you come up on them , common sense is to adjust your SPEED to the flow of traffic.

i will sign on with a o/o and that will be fine. :biggrin_25519: Good Luck

As someone who hires drivers I can tell you that the speeding tickets will likely cause you more of a problem than the drug possession. Anything 15 mph over the posted speed limit is considered reckless driving. If the speeding tickets were 10 mph or less over the posted speed limit, it would cause fewer problems for you. The reckless driving coupled with the drug possession will cause some difficulties. Most insurance companies will go back 3 years on your mvr. I don't know of any who check criminal records, but many carriers will do a criminal background check. I think that until the speeding tickets drop off that you will have some difficulties finding a suitable otr job.

Having said that, you have committed your time and money to get a CDL. Some dump truck and construction companies are not as picky when it comes to moving violations. But, whether the company has one truck or ten thousand, insurance will be the main problem finding employment with an otr company. My insurance company would not touch you, even if you only had one speeding ticket that was 15 over. If I could find an insurance company that would insure you, my premiums would likely rise significantly. That will be true with any potential employer. Once the first ticket drops off your chances will improve. As I stated above, carriers and insurance companies usually only check your last 3 years of your mvr.

I don't know when you graduate, but there is a small window where you can find a driving position before most otr carriers will require a refresher. I know it isn't what you want to hear, but that is the way things are these days. When I first stated driving moving violations were not as much of a problem to over come. There was a time when what we did in a personal vehicle was sheltered from anyone checking if you had a CDL. That is no longer the case, and that is why it will likely be a problem for you. Bush changed things when he made both records transparent.

If I were you and in your situation, I would be looking for a job now. I would check with my state employment office, explain the situation and see if they might have some companies that might help. At one time, California had a program that would help felons get a CDL and job. I don't know if they still have the program or if other states might have something similar, but it is worth checking. I would also talk to your school. Most driving schools will assist graduates to find driving jobs after graduation. If they can't help you to over come your record, perhaps they will refund your money until the moving violations come off your record. If I remember correctly your speeding tickets were in 2009 and 2010. You only have a year for the oldest to drop off your record. In another year or so, the drug charge will also be older and less of an issue. All it takes is time. But, I would spend as much time as possible exploring possibilities. The state employment office can be a good resource.

Whether or not you learned from your mistakes is irrelevant. The tickets are still on your MVR and that is what carriers will look at. Your best bet is to wait 3 years for the tickets/points to clear. That is assuming you actually have learned from your mistakes and won't acculumate any more points within the next 3 years. You'll be wasting your time trying to find a job with a OTR company as a driver with those points on your MVR.

Honestly, with two tickets I'm surprised your state will even give you a permit.

I do not believe his narcotics charge was a dwi, it was a misdemeanor posession. Driving while under the influence of anything is illegal, but how many people do we know who are prescribed pain meds and still operate a car? By the letter of the law if you take that percocet, vicodin, or whatever if it's labelled to cause drowsiness or not to operate machinery after taking then it is illegal to drive after taking it.

I was not advocating the use of marijuana and driving. Or any drug while driving for that matter. But here are some facts.

Drivers under the influence of alcohol are more likely to cause an accident than those under the influence of THC. Alcohol causes a sense of confidence, an invincibility complex. Think of all the drunken bar fights....how many fights have you been called 2 involving 2 stoner hippies and no alcohol? How many domestic calls involved alcohol vs only marijuana? THC causes paranoia, a sense of vulnerability, while someone drunk on alcohol will drive faster and take more chances, someone high on thc will drive slower and be more cautious.

OK I need to get off my soapbox as I'm almost derailing this thread again. MJ is illegal and as long as it stays that way it is a no no in this industry. Driving under the influence of ANY mind altering substance is dangerous and illegal. But there are degrees of danger and as I stated before the law regarding a simple plant is silly.
