A clear cool night appears to be the largest vote getter.

Aiming an antenna, is a myth.

You can turn a "beam", and you should. But that is based on the design of the antenna. Not what you are using it for. Every antenna has a pattern, this pattern is set by the design.

Talking skip, can be done several ways. Using several methods. Aiming the antenna is not much of an issue, unless you use a beam.

Not really an answer for you. But maybe it will help you re-construct your question.

Skip is not against the law. It all depends on solar activity, AKA solar flares.

Using a legal 4 watt radio shooting skip is all about the solar cycle. some times it might be so bad you only get 1 mile and when its good possibly even hundreds of miles.

Hook up yourself a nice antenna and amp and you can shoot skip in no time, but that wouldn't be legal.

Just because you get an amp, doesn't mean you can shoot skip either, trust me, I'm a regular sidebander, and I have a few amps to choose from.

I wonder why the hams haven't come in here to edumucate yoo on illegal operations concerning skip. Don't even think of talking to someone who is farther than 153 miles away. OBEY OBEY OBEY

The last couple of days, I haven't been able to get out that great because all these different storms have been rolling in through Alabama, so it's been nothing but skip. I bet I have heard half of the states in the Country. Skip is cool, but it gets kind of annoying after about five minutes when you are trying to talk to somebody.

Guess again Young Jedi! It is illegal according to the FCC to talk more than 153 miles on the 11 Meter Band, like DirtyBusiness said...Of course when those rules were written, the FCC probably never thought it was even possible...And trying to enforce that rule is imposible...
