Hi guys, I’m in a very bad situation that i put my self in. I booked a load from Lipsey Logistics world wide, i talked with the broker and we covered all the typical nonsense. The load was from Columbus, OH going to St. Louis, MO. The load was picked up on the 27th and was delivered the same night at 10:00pm. The receiver told the driver to drop the trailer at one of their docks he did so but he couldn’t park in their lot so he went to a nearby truck store. in the morning when he went back to get an update they told him that “they keep trailers for upto 2 weeks”. They also said he wouldn’t be able to go inside because they already cut the seal and it’s now their responsibility. They also said that the broker should’ve told you that we keep trailers. I checked the rate con and it says drop and hook. I failed to read that when i booked the load. I called the broker and he’s very bad and doesn’t want to resolve anything. He said to that he wouldn’t pay detention, because the trailer has to be there for 24-48 hours. I tried to explain that we are a small o/o business and we can’t afford to drop the only trailer we have for two weeks. His reply was I don’t care if this is happening to you and truckers tell me that they can’t pick up loads all the time so deal with it. I told him don’t generalize talk to me about what’s specific to my case and company and he said you guys generalize too. As i right this it’s 08/01/2020 and I’m still at the same place, lost time and many and i know I’m to blame because i fell for the sneaky way that this ####ty broker does business by not reading the #### rate con. With that being said what other options do i have? TIA
2 week detention

What in the world could take two weeks to unload?

Immediately send the consignee a bill for the trailer use for those two weeks and add administrative costs for the unscheduled use of the trailer which should cover expenses to replace that trailer.
While your contract is with the broker to deliver, unless it is disclosed within that contract to have the trailer tied up and contract is exclusive, anything outside of that contract falls to the receiver or consignee.Coffey, BUMBACLADWAR, kimbosa and 10 others Thank this. -
It will cost but it will be cheaper then waiting 2 weeks.Coffey Thanks this. -
How about finding a power only load out that let's you use their trailer for 7 to 10 days at a time. Check with Oneway Trailers, Trailer Movers, Dedicated Trailers, or other similar brokers.

Sorry to hear this, I think there's a valuable lesson to be learned here. One of the many situations where a bigger company should either know this or can absorb it. Some say I'm FOS on O/O's today, but here's a shining example of how O/O's get the shaft. That axxhole broker knew all about this, and you were next.

Similar happening to me right now. However I’m glad it isn’t two weeks. Broker disclosed a dropped trailer at consignee for 4 hours. I accepted. When I got to consignee they said 48 hours. Now broker just says oh well pound sand. Frustrating as hell because I’m in a day cab far from home.
