What do you need help with? You sound like the state owes you something. There are companies out there that will pay you as you train. I can't tell you how many called when I was looking that could have me in a class by Monday. Stop looking for a handout and start looking for a job.

Seriously? He was given the suggestion to check with the employment office to see whether aid is available. He reported back his results. I don't see an entitlement attitude there.

Okay. Next step then will be to check with some of the companies who have their own schools. Yeah, I know all about the contracts. Some of them want you to work "x" number of months or owe the entire amount. CRST is one of them. Others will send you through their school and, as you pay them back for it through payroll deductions, prorate the amount owed if you leave before the entire note is paid off. Swift is one of these. Plenty of training companies out there. Prime and Central Refrigerated are others...and there are more. Research this carefully and choose a company that will be the best fit for you. Generally, you will be with that company for a year (or a little more...13 months for Swift) before your note is paid or obligation met. This is probably the fastest way to get out there and start earning money. As you know, some money is better than none.

    Good luck to you.

the state has no more funds for any kind of schooling for anyone and would recieve no help from them at all. Yeah, I live in indiana.

    Sounds like it to me.

If you read back through the whole thread, you will see he was asking for ideas of how to proceed. PopMartian suggested he contact the employment department. He did. He was frustrated because the state can't help. I understand his frustration. I went through the same thing five years ago with the State of Oregon. I was told yes, they do help fund retraining through various programs, but not for trucking...due to the high failure rate.

When someone has been out of work, they are desperate to grasp at any straw they can to get back to work. This seemed like a door slamming in his face. So yes, I can understand why he posted as he did. But I still don't see the entitlement mentality here. The guy wants to get a job.

U guys are silly. Not that u know anything about me to think I feel entitled to something. The state of indiana has never done anything for me and as I'v not asked before I was told this at the door. At least I didnt have to wait in line.
My unemployment was from Il. where I'v always worked and hav had to pay taxs for both states.
I didnt feel entitled to them helping me with this but tried to see if they would. The end part was because I think this state sux atleaste the part I live in, and the only reason I live here is that its affordable.
I do find it interesting that someone finds it some how exceptable that they can state that they are pissed, lol about something I stated here.
I'v busted my ### for many years and was raped on my taxes every week for 5-6 hundred a week and many times more.
I think I should be able to expect some kind of help from our gov. considering , but I know that has never happened and would be supprised if it did.

Oh and in case some of u dont know. Unemployment dosent come from gov. funds . it is paid by the companys u'v worked for . The more u'v worked the more u have. and vice versa. I am very gratefull this system is in place . Or I'd be homless by now. Bc I know that even tho I'v supported someonelses family threw my tax dollars there is no support for me.

Isn't that infuriating? You pay taxes all your life to support people who refuse to work, pump babies out like factories and spend the money they're supposed to be using on those babies for drugs, and when you need help, it's too bad so sad.

I'm going to leave the rest of my political thoughts out of this thread. Check around with some of those companies. Sounds to me like you have a legitimate reason for being out of work and I don't think it will hurt your prospects. Just be prepared to put up with some BS for a while. Just like you did when you were an apprentice.

Yes I feel the same way.
I'm reading through my cdl booklet right now to hopfully make passing easier and hoping these ppl get back to me soon.
From reading about all these ppl failing these tests I hope I can pass it seems rather hard. I really dont want to end up indebt for trying to start a new carrear.

I'd happily go do an apprenticeship again. U dont realize how easy an apprenticeship is till its in the past. It did make me one tough son of a b tho :)

Injun....this isn't directed at you. But you did provoke the response. :biggrin_25522:

99 weeks later...he comes to this forum.

Here's my advice...... 98 weeks too late.

Move !!!! Get off your ### and move !!!

Jobs don't come to you simply because you want one. Historically, we have been a nation of nomads, moving to where ever the jobs were.

You can bet your ### they are NEVER going to build a new hydro electric dam in my neck of the woods. If I want to work in the construction of said dam. I will have to MOVE !!!!

Construction ???? My bud has been driving a truck for 6 years now. Because "local" construction tanked before the economy.

He never drew a cent of unemployment !!! He used his own money (savings) to attend truck driving school.

It doesn't matter if you have a home (mortgaged) and a wife and kids. If you don't move....you will loose it all.....including FOOD.

So you see, my opinion is not one of entitlement. But one of disgust, because someone failed at their ONLY real job in life. Providing for themselves and the ones they love, by whatever means it takes.

Unemployment is not in my list of "means".
