20+ Girls Missing After Texas Flood

They found the bodies of the 13 that were missing last night

 

Sad deal. There was a similiar incident down in the Ouchitas of SW AR not too long back.

 

You would think the adults would know better to get everyone to higher ground ASAP when it starts raining that hard. I imagine there are going to be some lawsuits.

 

I think you're underestimating flash flooding.

 

I'm not underestimating anything. That's why I'm saying they should have evacuated immediately. I think most people have seen the news stories of people trapped in their cars surrounded by raging flood waters in places like Texas. From what I understand, the cabins for some of the older age groups were higher above the river while the youngest girls' cabins were next to the river.

 

They had no warning system in place in that county.
In addition the campgrounds are situated between cliffs and the Guadalupe River so any cell signal in that part of Texas Hill Country would bounce off the cliffs(line of sight),rendering any cell signal useless.
The campgrounds are practically in the middle of FLOODPLAIN!

The death toll is up to 43 now.

 

We had 6” of rain in an hr. here. We are below Canyon. Up river above Mystic and Canyon had over a foot fall in no time at all. They started to evac at 4am. Most of the ones lost from what i hear went out on their own and are not from here so they don’t understand how that river and all the tributing creeks rises in no time.

 

Look up the Guadalupe river Comfort flood of 1987 when it dang near reached the IH10 overpass. Channel 5 News chopper was during dustoff missions for a schoolbus that got washed in by a 40 ft wall off water.

Any natives from this part of Tejas along the Guadalupe river basin knows July is infamous. This is the first one I experienced as a little one. The Santa Clara creek came up around our properties and took out a handful water crossings. My uncle lost some breeder cows.
